It was so easy for me to decide who would be my first ‘Girl Boss’. Nidya Lloyd is my wonderful sister-in-law and best friend – oh and on occasion, I’m her second shooter for weddings. I’ve had the pleasure of watching her grow her business for the past 6 years. She’s dedicated to not only her business but also to God and her family. Want to learn how this Girl Boss stays cheerful amongst the chaos? Then keep reading!
Tell us about your business, how you got started and why.
I am a wedding Photographer based out of the Hudson Valley NY. Believe it or not, my journey as a photographer morphed out of a scrapbooking obsession, I had started dating this uber-attractive guy (now my uber-attractive husband) and I bought my first DSLR camera – a digital single-lens reflex, in case you were wondering – to get better pictures of us for our first anniversary scrapbook. The first picture I ever took was of his college baseball glove and I fell in love with photography right then and there, fast forward two years and I found myself looking for a wedding photographer and seeing these glittering brides solidified that that’s what I wanted to be.
What is your definition of a ‘Girl Boss’? What is the best part of being a ‘Girl Boss’?
When I think of the term “Girl Boss” I immediately picture those little cartoons with the business women juggling two babies, a vacuum, and a laptop all while on the phone with the plumber. Girl Boss to me is that multi-tasking superwoman who does it all and does it all really well. Girl boss is a movement that I am proud to be a part of; most people look at working moms like they are taking from their children, husband, or sacrificing their household responsibilities but believe it or not my business comes last for me which is the best part of being a girl boss that I can give my all to my family and still contribute and run a successful business.
If we’re sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great year it’s been for you, what did you achieve?
Chances are I have achieved a better workflow and cracked the higher end wedding photography clientele so I can dedicate more time to my kids, Husband, and our church that my Husband just became the Pastor of. #goals
When have you been the most cheerful in your life?
Honestly, The Lord has blessed me in so many ways that this list could go on and on. Right now, is certainly up there. My business has been blessed and I have been able to use that platform to share the gospel with people, my kids are both doing wonderfully, and my Husband and I have been given the tremendous honor of taking over a church; the Lord has been so good to us and I am thrilled to be able to serve him in this new way!
What does it mean, to you, to have a cheerful heart? How do you stay cheerful during your day-to-day?
A cheerful heart to me is rejoicing in the promises of the Lord! When I think of all the things that Christ has already done for me and the beauty of the Gospel how on earth can you NOT be cheerful all day long! I just keep God right in the center of all that I do and the cheer comes naturally :).
